I recently got a bus lane fine which I wanted to appeal until I was informed by London Borough of Brent that the fine would go up from £50 to £100 if I lost my case. This I feel needs reviewing as lower income families and pensioners should be given the chance to appeal without the threat of added fines.

Err! not quite - BusRus - OK! I admit, for the first time for many years, I used a bus the other day - The cars in for an MOT "Gulp" . The bus was one of the new concertina types, modern, clean, and remarkably quick (hang on for dear life). As we glided by the long line of cars and vans squeezed into the outside lane, a smug smile crossed my face. I also noted the other two rather bedraggled looking fellow passengers, languishing in the others wise deserted and cavernous interior appeared blissfully unaware of this new found VIP privilege bestowed upon them.
As a temporary Bus passenger, I have to agree, this anti car, heavily subsidised system does work for the privileged few, "the off peak passengers".

No! I am not going to abandon my car for the bus, as my return journey was a nightmare. It had fallen into the school run. The bus was over-full (This time a double Decker) of loud, aggressive "Children" some of them well over 6 feet tall. They swore and cursed, they stared at me, their inner rat instinct sensing an outsider. I am well built, and 6 feet tall, and I have been described as "Look like a thug", but I felt intimidated by the staring, sniggering, foul language and nasty remarks. The Bus windows where covered in scratched on graffiti, the seats messy and torn. The bad language and general aggressive demeanour of this " Child" rabble is apparently quite usual for the School Bus run. Experienced Bus users avoid this time of travel if possible. (Lewisham)

Never again! - I will walk next time I don't have the use of a car, my cocoon, my CD's, my own clean air. As a foot note, I also caught a nasty cold, I have no proof it was the bus journey. A coincidence that the first cold this year, is the day after my one and only Bus ride.

.......Moaning Muslims Poll
Britons are sick and tired of moaning Muslims. That is the shock finding of a Sunday Times-YouGov opinion poll which canvassed more than 1,600 people.

The poll shows that 86% of people think the protests held in London by Muslims angry about the publication of cartoons which featured Mohammed were “a gross overreaction”. By 56% to 29% respondents said it was right to publish the cartoons in Denmark and republish them elsewhere.

Earlier this month Muslim protesters in Britain carried placards urging violence and death against those who insult Islam, and celebrating last year’s July 7 London bombings. Asked about those protests, 58% said it made them angry and 76% said the police should have arrested those carrying offensive or provocative banners.

The establishment politicians are seen to be out of touch with the voters and both police and politicians are criticised for not confronting Islamic extremism, with 80% of respondents saying the authorities show too much tolerance of Muslims who urge extreme acts. Two-thirds, 67%, think this is because senior policemen such as Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police commissioner, are too “politically correct”.

Where foreigners stir up racial and religious hatred, 81% of people think they should be sent back to their own countries, even if to do so would endanger their lives.

According to another poll published last week, 7% of Britain's 1.6 Million Muslims - more than 100,000 people- believe suicide bombings in the UK could be justified in certain circumstances. These are not exceptional findings. According to a YouGov poll taken last year, 24% of British Muslims expressed some sympathy with the motives of the London bombers. Most disturbingly, 32% agreed that : Western society is decadent and immoral and Muslims should seek to bring it to an end."

New Transport for London rip off Laws
In a recent development, the new transport for London rules will allow traffic wardens to take appropriate action in ?drive Off? cases, when motorists drive off from a place where a parking ticket could have been issued to them, but had still not been written. It is a common practice that seeing a traffic warden near their car, the motorists run to their vehicle and drive off from the place. This prevents the traffic warden to issue a PCN to a motorist. But now new rules have been prepared under which traffic wardens who have begun preparing a PCN will still be able to complete the same and send it to the motorist at his home address.

This is a very worrying situation. This law means that traffic wardens and parking attendants will soon be empowered to hand out PCNs, even when they are nowhere near your car. This law will give traffic wardens carte blanche to simply note down your car licence plate number and then claim that they had begun to prepare the ticket before the driver drove off. In my opinion, this law has a huge potential for abuse and it will be the motorists who will once again be the victim of such draconian law being implemented by new transport for London.

Traffic wardens will now catch the motorists unaware of the fact whether they are parked in a proper parking bay and issue them a ticket while standing 200 yards away from their vehicle. There is no way to challenge this PCN as the charged motorist will have no witnesses, no pictures and no other form of evidence to prove that the offence had not taken place. This law will prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the motorists, who are constantly being cornered by the government by introducing new taxes, increasing vehicle tax, increasing fuel tax, increasing congestion charge and above all internationally rising fuel prices.

Why are we all sleeping over such issues? Why don?t we protest against these draconian laws which are crucifying our domestic budgets? Imagine a motorist having a row with a traffic warden with the end result that he will get a PCN in the post a few days later? No questions asked? It is his word against yours!!!!

When a system becomes corrupt, when abuse is wide spread, get rid of it. Repeal all parking laws, and the the crossly unjust PCN system, and start from scratch. Strip all parking enforcement powers from Local councils.

Local councils, and Transport for London have proved they are unfit to administer the roads, or parking enforcement. They use PCN's, clamping, towing etc. Not to alleviate congestion. Not for sensible and fair management of the road network. The use PCN's to extort money.

Nor do they administer correctly, a basic right of every citizen, to park their car. They use the powers they have been given, to cause parking chaos, and congestion, and as a vast and ever growing revenue stream. Put simply, an out of control extortion racket that perpetuate their spendthrift, corrupt and wasteful ways.
